Dig yourself out

If you think your life is unfair then wait, I am showing you something worse than yours. At least you were born on the surface, but turtles are born under the surface. Mother turtles lay 70-90 eggs at a time. She digs a hole of approximately 2-3 meters deep and buries them in it. Once the hatchlings are out of the egg, they start removing the sand. They dig themselves out from the hole, their mother has buried in. Hatchlings, who are on the top layer get out easily but those on the bottom, get stuck. A few of them die due to suffocation, as they can’t dig themselves out. They never come out and witness the beautiful world. Those who successfully come out from the hole, rush towards the water. It is not the end yet, the struggle to survive continues. Before reaching the ocean, they face many attacks from their predators. Most of them get picked up by humans, eaten by other animals and birds. A few reach the ocean after a long fight with nature. Now they think they have successfully fought the battle and won the game, but to their surprise, there are big sea fishes, hungry for a long time. They hunt those small baby turtles to feed their empty stomach. Only a few babies survive the attacks and successfully enjoy a hundred year of their incredible journey on this planet. Scientist says, one out of hundred eggs successfully live a hundred years of life, rest get destroyed before becoming young.

Compare your life with theirs, do you think your life is more unfair than theirs? You were the only child who came on this planet and fortunately you survived without any attack. Neither you dig out yourself nor you trek towards the water. So how can you say your life is unfair?

We started complaining about every scar life gives us. We blame our destiny for every challenge we face in our life. Instead of facing those challenges as an opportunity to learn, we regret and give up, thinking it’s the end. How many times have you given up without even giving a shot, because someone said it is impossible? How many times have you didn’t tried something new because you were afraid of failure? Ask yourself, how many times have you killed your dreams because the road towards it was full of struggle?

We have to come across many challenges and struggles to survive, not because we want to but because we have to. Sometimes, the process is hard but we have to go through it. Those tiny turtles never think their life is hard. They know, they need to go there and start their journey. Whatever comes in their way, they fight or try to escape and go ahead.

As a leader, you have to dig yourself out from holes you didn’t dig. You need to face challenges caused by others. It doesn’t matter, whether or not you have the potential to deal with it. You will have to fight those demons to survive in this competitive organization. We get many problems from our family as a legacy. There are a few lucky ones, who get lots of problems from their life partners or love mates. One thing you need to keep in your mind, if we push forward with hope, we will make it.
